When Mordichai recorded the inaugural aBSYNTh of dEATh album, the idea was to keep from having bad dreams about.... well... we don't really need to go into that now anyway now do we? That's a rhetorical question. We'll leave it at that.

It did take a crazy six years to record all of the material for the album. ...and the music videos were like, also crazy.

Isn't that a pretty book cover? It's the latest release from the Mordichai Music (& everything) Universe. Mordichai is currently in the process of publishing some short stories in the near future. Why Today, September 26 Is So Strange

With each breath we get closer and closer to death, Mordichai keeps reminding us. Not that he's threatening us in any way or anything, it's just a gentle reminder that life is short and there is much more going on in one moment than there was ten years ago. This is more than just a mere observation, it's a relative fact. The population has increased, almost everyone technically "does" something, therefore there is more going on now than there ever was on this plane of existence.

With so much focus on the tomorrow to come, we've lost our past and thus are doomed to repeat our saddest mistakes. Here on Earth we tend to mainly do one of two things. We focus on our survival or we entertain ourselves.

Although it should be obvious that we are here to help entertain you, we also hope to disclose any helpful survival tips we may have, so you will live, and we will still have jobs entertaining you beautiful people.

September 26 has some creepy and bizarre anniversaries. For instance, the Parthenon getting damaged in 1687 as a result of the Venetian army attacking the Acropolis while attempting to remove Turks. This very same day in that very same year, the City of Amsterdam had decided to support William of Orange's invasion of England through a vote. They call it the "Glorious Revolution."

On a lighter note, David Lynch's documentary The Art of Life has come to DVD today as well as the newest installment of the Transformers film franchise. This one is called The Last Knight and stars Mark Wahlberg, Laura Haddock and Anthony Hopkins.

Plot: This time the war isn't between the Autobots and Decepticons, but man vs. machines. As humanity rises up against the Transformers, Optimus Prime disappears, and the key to saving the future for both sides lies in the long-forgotten history of how the Transformers originally came to Earth.

This day in 1955 is incidentally, is when Carrie Fisher's mom and dad, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher got hitched which just happened to happen on George Gershwin's birthday. He was born in 1898 in Brooklyn, NY.

Nearly a century later in 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show opened in theaters and not quite a decade later in 1984, Prince's song Purple Rain was released. Another great album, The Beatles Abbey Road, was dropped also on this weird and wonderful day in 1969 but I'm certain that it didn't sell like this Elton John's initial 300,000 unit shipment of Candle In The Wind, whose 1997 release totally sold out on its first day.

Perhaps it's all relative, but I suggest visiting a Time Travel agent and get hooked up with some great tours. Wouldn't it be great to go see Jimi Hendrix play back in the day? But I digress, that is why we have video files, VR and 360 filming. This way future gens can see what went on from now on.

We'd really love to see you in the future. Maybe we could have an open line, or Periscope or live Facebook session or something with Vonnegut Sludge, Kryogenic, or aBSYNTh of dEATh or whomever. I'm certain that I don't know how well it would go, but I'll talk to somebody and see what we can get going on in that respect.

Today In Music History Sept 25

1972 was a great year, particularly for fans of Black Sabbath as they released their compilation of dark sounding heaviness titled Volume IV which was released on this day, September 25.

Happy Birthday to two-time Grammy winner and blockbuster film star, Will Smith who was born just three years earlier in 1969.

And y'know back in 1971, Rod Stewart was the number one cat on the radio on September 25th

Well, no matter. Now you have some useful trivia for the next time you go to the bar on a Wednesday afternoon.

Events in Music History September 24th 2017

So way back in 1988, on this very day, Bobby McFerrin had started his two week run to the number one spot on the U.S. singles chart with 'Don't Worry Be Happy.' Meanwhile on this day twelve years later in 2000, Madonna's track "Music" hit the U.K. charts. That's all fine and dandy we all say, but for us September 24th marks the anniversary of one of rock music's most influential albums. The album we're talking about is none other than that masterpiece of noise, Nevermind, Nirvana'a Bleach follow-up. Nevermind found its way to the number one position by January of 1992.

Many younger folks these days may not know the complete story of how Mr. Kurt Cobain helped shift the face of rock music. However, we see his contribution to music to be equal to that of the contributions of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, Brian Jones among others. Cobain had stirred the pot of change in a time when people wouldn't listen to anything outside of their favorite genre. That is unless your aunt Penny made you listen to her vinyl Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass LPs all day. Seriously though, it really wasn't cool to listen to punk music if you were a metal fan and likewise couldn't be listening to bands like Depeche Mode when your homies are listening to The Exploited or G.B.H. and Black Flag. Now, this where Kurt had changed things.

He took rock and metal and punk and mushed them neatly together in a very organized fashion, which sounded as if it was out of control, and it freaking worked! Nirvana's Nevermind would be the catalyst for the grunge genre's Seattle Scene exploding on the world stage after Manchester, U.K. was filling the ear canals of the youth with music from the Happy Mondays, Charlatans and the Stone Roses. It was a different time. Metallica had only released their 5th album (2nd with Jason Newstead) one month prior to Nirvana's release of Nevermind.

The unique mixture of music had taken the world by storm and before you knew it, bands like Tool, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains had also been exhaled to stardom setting the stage for the 90's to birth some crazy new music.

What a Day in Music History!

We're going to start something new here. In addition to the lovely trivia tidbits from the bands and artists of the Mordichai Music (& everything) UniVerse, we have decided that the little, but big in our hearts, bits of information like who's birthday it is, who died today, who did some really cool stuff to leave the rest of us music junkies and inspire us to do greater things.

So we'll get started a little awkwardly, with the birthdays. Various sources confirm that today, September 23rd was the day several rock artists were born. These musicians include our lovely rasta man, Robert Nesta Marley (a.k.a. Bob Marley), whose music is played long and loud and always has been here at the Mordichai Music offices. We'll keep it that way forever. :) He was born today in 1945. World War II was just ending and the world was a mess. Oh, wait a second. The world's still a great big mess.

Mordichai, our label's founder and producer of the works of such bands as OzkAn, Acidic Dreamtime Players and aBSYNTh of dEATh is a big fan of both Marley and his band mate Peter Tosh as well as Burning Spear among other reggae greats.

Born in 1948 was another fantastic father of innovation in the music world who celebrates a birthday today is Alice Cooper. His first album was produced by another one of our great influential patriarchs of composition and that is the late Mr. Frank Zappa. Alice Cooper's work has inspired many through the several decades that he's been creating his unique brand of shock rock. It's cool that his dad and grandpa are pastors.

Mr. Zappa ia a huge influences on our very own UNK BEN. His world was shaped around the music of these two very inspirational men.

We dig that only one of the mentioned birthday stars are living at this time, but we really couldn't begin this without mentioning two fellows whose musical genius had shaped us into who we are, and thus creating the Mordichai Music (& everything) UniVerse into what it is.

Then we have the beloved birthday of one of the big influences of Hessistant and Meditations For Monsters. That is that on this day in 1930, the great Ray Charles was born. His piano works had created great numbers of children to pluck the slightly off-tune black and white keys of their grandmother's uprights, including the composer of all of our great Hessistant compositions. Check out their release of "Finally After All This Time," a raw solo piano album, recorded on the beautiful Canadian, Vancouver Island and performed by Mordichai.

Oh, and what's this? Mordichai's first paid gig in the film industry was on the set of the MFTV film "Home For Christmas" with the beloved and now departed Mickey Rooney. Well, you guessed it, he was born on September 23, 1920.

Such a small world after all? Did you know that much of the technology we use today such as Facebook, Skype-powered messenger video calls can be seen in the 1962 on this day with ABC's first color series, The Jetsons.

So thank you and happy birthday to the inspirational, both dead and living!

Hot New Music

It is amazing to sit and watch as bands flourish and grow into the fantastic entertainers they are around here. 332 years ago today Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart published his six string quartet Opus 10, and we still listen to it today. What a wonderful thing that would be to be heard seriously for centuries?

We are okay, well most of our bands anyway, when it comes to placating the ego and need not that extra nurturing. Mozart may have been a handful and in our last century we had the energy packed likes of Keith Moon and the brilliant Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones, who's chaos had, at least in part, mirrored the likes of the great composer.

Nevertheless we are expressly excited about the next Hessistant project, their fourth release after their self-titled debut Hessistant, the raw solo piano album Finally After All This Time, and their extraordinary release Nubile Clock which features fantastic compositions mimicking a parallel world, or perhaps even a dream. It's a pleasure to hear over and over.

The fourth Hessistant album's name hasn't been decided upon just yet and nor has the release date been set but there are many ways of finding out when it'll be available to the public. Soon enough.
